Shergill is married to Priyanka Puri from Delhi and they have a son named Vir. Jasjit Singh Gill (born 3 December 1970), popularly known as Jimmy Shergill (Punjabi: ਜੀਮੀ ਸ਼ੇਰਗਿਲ), is an Indian actor. Shergill born in a Sikh jatt family in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. A year later, his family shifted to Patiala (Punjab). He studied in Punjab Public School(PPS), Nabha, and completed his graduation from Government Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala.

He started his career with Maachis, a movie based on terrorism in North India. The film was critically acclaimed and did reasonably well at the box office. Jimmy Shergill has since worked in many films but only few have been successful. His most recent film was alongside Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in My Name is Khan. Jimmy Shergill played the role of Shahrukh's younger brother. Shergill has performed a variety of roles in various films such as Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Delhi Heights and A Wednesday. He has been a critically acclaimed performer ever since his entry into Bollywood. His role in Mohabbatein was well appreciated. He went on to act in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai and many other films post the success of Mohabbatein. One of his best performances was in the movie Haasil where he plays the role of a college student who gets roped into the infamous student politics of Allahabad University.

He has made his contribution to develop the Punjabi cinema by doing at least one Punjabi film every year. He is the first Punjabi actor who has made commitment to the Punjabi cinema to help compete with the big budget Hindi films. Mel Karade Rabba was his last Punjabi film and was an all time blockbuster. The film made more than the Hindi films that released on the same day even though it had very few screens/shows. The success cemented Jimmy shergill as the new Punjabi hero. Almost all of his Punjabi films so far were successful.

He has acted in a number of Punjabi movies such as Mannat, Yaaran Naal Baharan, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Munde U.K. De and Mel Karade Rabba. His Punjabi films have done really well in Punjab as well as overseas. Recently it has been announced that Jimmy Shergill will be producing and acting in a Punjabi bi-lingual film titled Dharti. It will have most of the Mel Karade Rabba team including the director, Gippy Grewal and Jaswinder Bhalla. Japjit Khaira will also be added to the cast. Other than that, the cast is yet to be announcecd.
